when i first saw this headline, linked through a friend's facebook, i thought it was a joke headline from the onion, a jab at arizona's immigration law sb1070. alas, i was wrong...

hey, speaking of wrong, let's read a few excerpts from the article, which can be viewed in full here.

"Meanwhile, in a move that was more covert until the Wall Street Journal uncovered it, the Arizona Department of Education has told schools that teachers with 'heavy' or 'ungrammatical' accents are no longer allowed to teach English classes."

"Teachers who don't meet the new fluency standards have the option of taking classes to improve their English, the Journal reports, but if they fail to reach the state's targets would be fired or reassigned."

FINALLY, FINALLY have enough money to pay for all of my bills this month without using my credit card! plus a few treats (coffee and lunches, plus more film!) i feel as though a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders. of course, too much is never enough with me, and now i'm working 6 days a week, some days all 7. but when i'm sleepy or grumpy or any other dwarf, i just remember my glimpse at the alternative, and i am happy again. but (if anyone is even still reading this blog) i think it will be pretty hard to take days off any time soon, if you are planning to come visit or anything. i still have to build my savings back up and, since i have yet to even attempt to take a day off, i have no idea how that will work. since i work at two small businesses with so few co-workers, it might prove to be a little difficult. you should probably all visit at once, yeah? and white cloud is coming in late june/early july, so come then! i like to think i will be in the clear by then!*

saw an ad on craigslist yesterday for a job near my house and today i headed down to 30th and killingsworth. given the horror stories that i have let scare me about portland unemployment, i was expecting a line around the corner like ryan gosling was inside bossing up customers. nope-no applicants, not even customers. they are super sweet up in this piece. when i tell them i am applying, casual mccutie girl tells me that they have had a lot of applicants, and to weed out the unworthy (my words) they are asking each person a few questions.
"how do you feel about the geo tracker?"
"is that like... a car gps?"
"no it's this little piece of shit suv kinda thing. we are asking everyone about their thoughts on it."
"well, i have literally never driven a car before, i'm sorry i don't really have a point of reference."
"don't be sorry, that's pretty badass! can you answer a few questions on the back of your resume? about the geo tracker, what kind of music you like, and why you want to help us out in the dish pit. thaaaanks!" chicky disappears.
i have a seat, reiterate my lack of knowlege about cars and hatred of suvs for the first question, the second one was way more fun, uh-duh. i told them about how me and lykke li have been having a year-long love affair, that me and tickley feather are soul mates, and that i stalk both wavves and dead man's bones (only, ya know, like totes in a professional format.) i told them stones over beatles cuz i'm old-fashioned like that, and lennon not mc cartney.

Came home from work tonight with: a frozen pizza, hot cheetos and ice cream to: three new netflix and a new magazine. Plus I bought a magazine this morning. Do you have to guess what I've been doing all night? That's right. Living like a middle aged women, that's what.

I am in desperate need of more dancing this weekend. I wish any and/or all of my dancing buddies were here. But alas, none of them are!

I bought this fabulous sunshine yellow nail polish yesterday for two bucks. Consequently my nails are currently yellow.

There are three tattoo artists sleeping downstairs. They all lurve Ella. She loves 'em back, I'm thinkin'.

I'm thinking about making everyone individualized "coffee table books" for christmas. But now that I told you that you might expect one, and that's a lot of pressure.

I live for sunshine. Odd for a ginger, I know.

I'm going to make a style journal. It's gonna be awesome.

I can't believe I haven't brought this up yet, since it's been on repeat for just about ever now. But that's ok, because as it stands it's perfect timing for my life in this moment.

but not the fun kind... oh, poo!
i was so incredibly lazy yesterday. it was all on demand and ice cream. i really, really needed that day. i had an awesome but exhausting weekend. so i got it all out of my system... and woke up yesterday feeling like rotting ass! insomnia has hit me like a ton, i'm coughing, blah blah blah.
anywho, no work today. thank heaven i have a super chill job where i can just make it up later. i couldn't even get off my ass long enough to go drop my netflix off in the mail box... a block and a half away. i haven't smoked a cigarette in two days. not out of quitting (necessarily) but out of sickliness.
on a happier note, laney and brooke are on their way back from hawaii and have a layover in portland! yay! so we have a few hours with 'em. they will be our third set of guests in a little over a month of living here. the last week has been spent daydreaming, dancing, eating copious amounts of junk, hopefully working on co-styling a photo shoot with sara, seeing this big city i now call home, mainlining coffee, making friends at the dollar store, making friends while smoking... it's pretty much the life.
i'm a regular bon vivant.

I am moving to Portland in September and have been saving up money for almost a year. I’m sure I don’t have to explain to you that this has meant very little shopping for me. But we found a house, paid our move-in fees and I finally have a little extra cash burning a hole in my pocket. My friend Yazi texted me the other day and asked me if I wanted to go to Indie Mart. I didn’t have a clue what she was talking about, and was more than a little skeptical to go to something with the word “indie“ in the name, but once I checked out the website, and realized that this would be a shopping trip, it was game on. I couldn’t wait to go. As someone who is not only a first-class people watcher but a lover of street style, I thought this would be a perfect time to spotlight some well-dressed lads and lassies from my neck of the woods and steal their ideas. I spent the day shopping local designers, enjoying the sun and bugging the locals. I asked them, “how would you describe your personal style?” I assumed such fashionable individuals would be able to explain their ensemble choices to me, but I seemed to catch a lot of people off guard, hence all the question marks.

All in all, I had a great day and I made out like a bandit! I got a cute little tote bag and a screen-printed t-shirt, both from local Bay Area designers, saw some great personal style in action, and caught a great performance by Red, White and Drunk at Thee Parkside (and sang along to their cover of Lisa Loeb’s Stay… you had to be there, I guess.)
What did we learn today, kids? I learned that I should probably dress for hot weather and bring a sweater in case it’s cold (summer style rule #1, duh), wear more sunscreen, and that a good friend or a cutie boy are the perfect accessory for a day on the town.

i received the new urban outfitters catalog in the mail yesterday (i know... don't ask!) and was flipping through. the clothes were nothing special, cute stuff, overpriced, the usual. and THEN i get to the housewares section... le sigh! such amazing stuff in there, let me tell ya!
i want these in a BAAAAAAAD way! and this is super amazing of course, totally very sally, and totally overpriced...

vacation's all i ever wanted

sorry about the lack of posts lately, guys!
first i was uninspired, and then i was on vacation in the wilderness of healdsburg (aka the Russian River) with no wifi for five whole days. then what do i come home to, when i want to curl up with the ol' laptop and play farm town and check perez? NO WI FI! i haven't been able to mooch wifi off the neighbors since i came back from my trip. what is the world coming to?! poop. well, i'm at my friendly neighborhood coffee shop mooching their wifi for now, but don't get used to it, folks! this thing's heavy!
i didn't get to take more than three pictures while on vacation, as all i had was the diana polaroid, my digital decided to display a cryptic "error" message the entire time i was up there. also, poop. jessica was taking some pictures, though, and it's all a matter of when those get developed and scanned before i can show them to you. as jessica put it, "probably not until we move to portland..."
but that is LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AWAY. sweet holy hell! just typing that made my heart beat faster!
the portland updates will probably be coming fast and furious, as we start to pack and house hunt and all that. (editor's note: this is "fast and furious" in sally time, which is still on the reg, but in reality probably neither fast nor furious.) i will say that jessica and i had a pretty easy time "living together" for five days, so go us!
